Art, Charity, Education, Future, Life...
Astoundingly, when I was going through my omg-it's-contemporary-art thing with the New York Times' T Style magazines that are piled up in the back room, I never really though of Indian artists. Pretty amazing, since I hunt for indian influences in everything else that I do. Anyway, I recently read a time magazine article about the resurgence of indian contemporary art collectors (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1903991,00.html) and the photograph accompanying the article sparked my interest. I looked up a few of the names mentioned in the article
("acknowledged modern masters" M.F. Husain - http://images.google.com/images?q=M.F.%20Husain&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M_F_Husain
and Amrita Sher-Gil - http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=TEk&num=20&q=Amrita+Sher-Gil&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=yXs5Svf2JYWoM8zSgI8N&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&resnum=1&ct=title ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amrita_Sher-Gil)
more: http://www.indianartcollectors.com/view-iac-gallery.php all very obviously indian, all very diverse as is the country itself
and thus opened up a world of art that I had imagined in my mind but somehow didn't think existed. I want to live in India to experience the true blend of everything that is that country.
reading The Moor's Last Sigh [by Salman Rushdie] has intrigued me even more, there is so much intricate culture (real and fictional...) swirling in an evolving mass around the air above india.
as far as charity goes, at the moment that is this

right now a ton of emo kids are on it, sucksss, but hopefully it will get popular and great!
so regarding education, today i went off on a rant with my art teacher (finishing up a project after school was done + during finals week .... xP) about education and reforming ours (ahem all of america's) and i think i'll start small with [now, this is SHRIYA SMALL, aka....drumroll please....] ny state haha. but yes so my plan now (i wish i wish i wish):
1. double major in college math/sociology, fill in any remaining time dance/art/south asian studies/writing/random sciences
2. grad school for education, possibly also for business
3. work while getting doctorate in something
4. move up ranks in educational administration until i make every child reach their full potential and contribute to their global community and the rest of the mumbo jumbo in the old queensbury mission statement (aka, the one i actually recognized)
ah, life. life is a funny thing. one second you are dreaming of the future
and the next you realize it's 8:30 and you told your art teacher you would email her an essay at 4...
bye for now, but i'm definitely back =)

Alright, so....it's been a while
I don't even know how to delete posts,
I'm trying to clean up the old ones and consolidate a bit, but I can't find the delete button because I have no brain.
Right now I should be doing a draft of an English essay and Chemistry, so yeah I'm going to have to do that for now but I'm coming back to this thing.

today.
i just noticed that i didnt make any posts in december...
this is pretty much here for random bursts of inspiration or when i remember it exists.
so today i had my AP world history and Advanced Regents Chemistry midterms today, world was horrible, chem was pretty good (since i studied cram-session-style in the cafeteria for 2 hours between the tests)
tonight i "studied for spanish"
tomarrow I have the Spanish 3H midterm and then the Hypnotist show at 7 at the school :D last year was so halarious i can't wait for this years.
Friday i'm going shopping for gifts for my friends bday parties on sat and sun, getting the files from my old laptop onto this one, and maybe buying a winter skirt or acrylic paint. then i have arangetram practice, then republic day practice.
Saturday its bharatnatyam in the morning, then Republic Day practice, then in the evening Nicole's mystery party (where I get to be the Vegas waitress aka whore).
Sunday it's Republic Day! Then Reshma's party in the evening, which will be fun =]
So for a weekend, I have a life =] But then I have to get back to school crap--good thing I start Drawing I and elementary school volunteering on monday :)
